Dr. Renee's beautiful gift

Don came home from the Veterinary Clinic after having our cat, Emily, hydrated. He told me that Dr. Renee had given us a dozen eggs that her chickens had laid and they were in the refrigerator.

I forgot about them and the next day when I was straightening up the refrigerator I saw the box and decided to put some of them in with the ones I already had, in the egg holder.

When I opened the carton, this is what I found...absolutely gorgeous colored eggs. Dr. Renee has Araucana chickens, they are known for the beautiful colored eggs they lay. I had never seen them personally. Being an artist and loving photography, I knew I had to use the opportunity to be creative.

This was the result. I washed and dried the eggs and arranged them on one of my favorite plates, took them out into the back yard and placed them in the fresh grass under the Douglas Firs.

It was late afternoon and sunlight was shining through the boughs, creating a dappled effect on the eggs. I loved it and was so happy with the outcome. I printed the picture on a card and the following is the thank you poem I wrote to give to Dr. Renee.

A carton of eggs, from Renee, how nice
When I opened the lid, I had to look twice
"Ohhhh my, oh wow!" was all I could say
I gazed on sheer beauty, that blew me away!

Not eggs, but gems, laid out in a row
Deserving of velvet tied with a gold bow
Just a small 'thank you', you've done your part
You've satisfied this artist's heart!

Thank you for sharing your bounty Renee
For making our Monday an 'Eggsellent day!"

Honestly, they are so pretty it will be hard to cook them. I've never had a pastel omelet.
